Convert HTML entities

Escape text for HTML text nodes or quoted attributes. This is not a sanitizer or a substitute for context-aware encoding.

Enter text and choose an operation.

Convert special HTML characters

Escaping changes special characters into their HTML entity equivalents. For example, a less-than sign is represented as < in HTML source. This tool escapes ampersands, angle brackets, quotes and apostrophes. The decoder recognises common named entities plus decimal and hexadecimal numeric references.

All conversion runs locally and output is set as plain text—not evaluated as HTML. Some named entities are intentionally unsupported; this is a small converter rather than a full standards-compliant HTML parser.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this to sanitize unsafe HTML?

No. Safe output encoding depends on context. Never treat decoded user content as trusted HTML, JavaScript, CSS or URLs.

Are numeric entities supported?

Yes, valid decimal entities such as © and hexadecimal references such as © are decoded. Invalid references stay unchanged.
